About the Organization: The P.E.I. Arts Guild, known as The Guild, is a dynamic arts hub dedicated to supporting the artists of Prince Edward Island. With a strong mandate to foster creativity and cultural growth, The Guild is entering an exciting new phase in its service to the Island’s arts community and the audiences who support them. The Guild’s centrally located facilities offer a space for artists to create, showcase, and connect with their audience.
Position Overview: The General Manager is responsible for overseeing the sustainability, operations and eventual growth of The Guild. This leadership role ensures the successful delivery of The Guild’s mandate and strategic priorities, primarily focused on the sustainability of the building itself as a home for the arts, while fostering positive relationships with artists, audiences, donors, and stakeholders, a key component of which is securing the necessary funding and resources to support the maintenance and operations of a large premises. The General Manager will be expected to work closely with the Board, staff, and the local arts and culture community to drive the Guild’s mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management and Development:
Develop and implement a strategy to achieve a sustainable financial position for The Guild as a building and as an ‘active manager’ in the Island arts scene.
Strengthen relationships with funders and create competitive, culturally sound funding applications for federal and provincial grants.
Collaborate with the Board and support groups to develop a donor program and explore social enterprise opportunities.
Ensure accurate financial reporting as required for general operations, funding opportunities, and the Board.
Operational Management:
Day-to-day general communications, staff management, building operations, and public-facing activities.
Collaborate with the Operations Manager to ensure building maintenance, upgrades, and improvements are completed effectively.
Manage short and long-term tenant relations and ensure a welcoming environment for all stakeholders.
Work with staff to ensure systems and policies are kept up to handover status at all times.
Strategic Planning and Community Engagement:
Work within The Guild’s emerging strategic plan to identify and develop opportunities for engagement, particularly with audiences that are not yet involved with The Guild.
Support the development of a long-term vision for The Guild, aligning with the arts and culture community’s needs and in partnership with funding bodies and the Board of Directors.
Provide input, guidance, and leadership in implementing strategic priorities to achieve the Guild's vision and mission.
Leadership and Representation:
Serve as a spokesperson and ambassador for The Guild within the local and regional arts and culture community.
Cultivate a diverse, inclusive, and respectful organizational culture that is welcoming to all members of the community.
Maintain transparent leadership and foster collaboration with the Board of Directors, committees, community partners, donors, and staff.
Policy and Procedure Development:
Collaborate with staff and Board committees to develop and implement policies and procedures, including staff handbooks, onboarding protocols, and financial/record-keeping systems.
Indicators of Success: The successful General Manager will:
Guide The Guild through its next period of growth by embracing innovative ideas, partnerships, and creative thinking in alignment with the Strategic Plan.
Foster an organizational climate that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Utilize transparent and collaborative leadership practices to strengthen relationships with the arts community and other key stakeholders.
Affirm and enhance positive relationships between The Guild’s management and the wider community, including artists, audiences, and supporters.
Qualifications and Skills:
Strong understanding of financial management, fundraising, and grant writing.
Strong understanding of operational requirements of building-based arts organisations and challenges of managing and maintaining a premises.
Proven experience in arts management, organizational leadership, or a similar role.
Demonstrated success in strategic planning and community engagement.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Ability to work effectively with diverse groups, including artists, donors, staff, and Board members.
A passion for the arts and a commitment to supporting the arts community in Prince Edward Island.

Full Time (40 Hours)
$71,000 P/A

$70 P/M gym or health membership contribution
15 paid vacation days P/A
Contract Duration: 2 Years based on funding and performance
